Relatively new and not the most famous android applications that are worth a try to learn English .
All applications are designed for people with different knowledge of English. You can set the level of difficulty, learn the language in a mode convenient for you and in your free time. It is enough to choose at least one program that you will access daily.
Applications can be used as a stand-alone tool for vocabulary replenishment and grammar revision, and as an additional element that will help make your learning in English courses or with a tutor even more effective.
1. Simpler: Learn English fast
This app will help break down the English language into understandable terms and make it as easy to understand as possible. Each lesson includes stages for memorizing words, checking them with examples and a simulator with various tasks.
Tasks are both simple – with an elementary arrangement of the members of the sentence, and complex, where you yourself must write a phrase in English. All answers and constructions for memorization are voiced.
Separately, the application should be praised for its simple and understandable interface, author’s illustrations, and a system to encourage users, which motivates them to study every day.
2. DROPS Visual Language Learning
The main purpose of this app is to get you interested in learning a language. All words and phrases in it are given with miniature images with which their meanings must be combined. This is done with simple taps and swipes.
In some cases, you need to build a clear sequence, while in others – to put things in order in a set of words, connecting them with lines in meaning. Such simple game elements, coupled with original illustrations, turn the learning process into solving simple puzzles.
An interesting feature of Drops is five-minute access to learning words every day. This limitation can be removed by purchasing the full version, but in fact, it is breaking down the study into short periods of time that makes the whole process less tedious and stressful.
3. Learn English Vocabulary
The authors of this service focused on the visual memory method, in which each word for memorization is supplemented with a high-quality image. In total, the program has over 3,000 words in its arsenal, which are divided into dozens of different categories and subcategories.
For convenience, special flash cards and listening are provided. The application works without access to the Web – you can memorize words anywhere and at any time.
Grammar and any rules are practically not given here, so the application is perfect for those who only need to replenish their vocabulary or practice pronunciation.
4. EWA: Learn English Language
English Words Ambassador or EWA offers to combine learning English with entertainment, namely watching your favorite movies and series. Excerpts from them will be offered as examples in the study of various words and phrases by topic.
Also in the application there are books in English that you can read or listen to. The translation of unknown words is displayed by pressing – they can immediately be added to the dictionary for memorization.
There are also three exciting games in EWA. In one, you need to match pictures and words, in another, you need to choose the correct translation, and in the third, you need to find words hidden among letters.
5.ReWord: Learn English Language
This is another assistant in learning words with a bet on handy flashcards. You only need to swipe them to the right or left, depending on whether you know the word or want to learn it.
The database contains thousands of words and phrases, which are divided into 50 categories. For each of them, you can download the pronunciation by native speakers. All this is complemented by examples of use and images.
You can track your progress in memorizing words using visual statistics, where all the words you know and those that you managed to learn with ReWord are counted.
6. Smart Book: Parallel translation of books
The app’s localized name is “Parallel Book Translation” and it speaks for itself. The program is perfect for those who are trying to improve their English through reading foreign literature in the original.
All text in Smart Book becomes interactive, allowing you to see the translation of words, sentences and entire paragraphs. Alice in Wonderland, The Old Man and the Sea and some other works are immediately available to users, and dozens of other books, including the entire Harry Potter, can be downloaded from the application via a link.
Moreover, the program allows you to use any other books in FB * 2, EPUB or TXT format – you can add them directly from the smartphone’s memory.
7. Cake: Lesson updates every day
This is a truly live service with constantly updated lessons, dialogues and various courses that allow you to pull up certain rules and topics.
An interesting feature of Cake are sections with analysis of phrases from films and trailers of fresh films. You can watch videos in the original and memorize the words at the same time.
All Cake content is updated systematically, so even if you haven’t found anything interesting for yourself right now, it’s worth checking out the app later.
8. Tongo – Learn English
Right from the start, Tongo will give you a little grammar test and ask if you’re a Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings fan. Based on your answers, the application will create a training program and select interesting materials.
Classes can be different: you can watch videos with English subtitles and train the pronunciation of words, read texts with translations and just learn grammar.
You choose the time plan for the English language yourself – at least 5 minutes a day, at least a whole hour. If you get involved, you can increase the duration of the lessons.
All these applications are aimed at people with different backgrounds. Some programs can be called very similar to each other, but often the same things are presented in different ways. For some, learning using visual memory is suitable, for others, listening will be key. Choose the option that suits you.
